GPON (Gigabit-Capable Passive Optical Network)

 

GPON has key features: downstream rates up to 2.5Gbps, upstream up to 1.25Gbps, and split ratios of 1:16 to 1:128. It uses WDM to transmit video, data, and voice simultaneously over a single fiber. For applications, it is ideal for reliable home broadband (widely in residential areas) and also used in enterprise networks and smart cities, offering a cost-effective high-speed data solution.

 

XGS-PON (10G Symmetric PON)

 

XGS-PON supports symmetrical 10Gbps uplink/downlink rates, split ratios of 1:16 to 1:256, and uses Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexing (TWDM) to coexist with GPON on the same fiber. It is for applications needing high-bandwidth symmetrical transmission—such as enterprise networks, data center interconnection, and 5G fronthaul—and is particularly useful in scenarios requiring both high-speed data and low-latency services.

 

NG-PON2 (Next-Generation PON2)

 

NG-PON2 leverages WDM technology to create up to eight wavelength-separated PON trees on a single fiber, supports 10Gbps uplink/downlink rates and 1:16 to 1:256 split ratios, and is compatible with TWDM-PON and point-to-point WDM-PON for diverse use cases.
